Internships
About the Program
If you loved the Forum, want to be more involved, and desire to make a positive difference in your personal and professional life, the NSLF Internship is for you! Interns receive one on one mentoring, practical training and the hands on experience of organising a prestigious national event. As part of a team of fun, highly motivated bright young people, you will have the opportunity to engage with members of the Federal Parliament, business and community leaders from around Australia and the Pacific. There is also the option of overseas activities for those interns who desire further exposure. An intern can be nominated to attend either our Forum Bridging Initiatives, Aspiring Leaders’ Forum in NZ or the US Student Forum in Washington DC. At the end of the year you will receive both a personal recommendation from one of our Parliamentary Hosts and the satisfaction of knowing you spent your year doing something incredibly meaningful and worthwhile!
The 2012 Internship is based in Sydney (with regular trips to Canberra) and runs from mid-March through the end of October. The time commitment is for:
- Approximately 4 hours per week voluntary work -part of which must be from NSLF office in Killara during office hours (varies depending on team role and time of year)
- Monthly Intern Team Meetings (weekday evenings)
- Mentoring Meetings (fortnightly)
- Periodic progress meetings with Forum Role Advisor
- Two training weekends away (March / October)
- Attendance at NSLF from 20-23rd September
- 2 midweek overnight trips to Canberra
- A presentation to the Board at year-end
This program is run on a voluntary basis, but interns receive a full scholarship to attend NSLF and all training weekends or trips to Canberra are free of cost.
